An Excerpt of BEN

It seems that as we got nearer to the port, it gets longer for us to get there. Why don’t the captain speed up so we could get there fast. I can’t wait to get home. I’m so excited and the excitement made the time slower. I’m at the railings now looking at the shore. I’m trying to guess where the shore of my town is. I can’t know. But looking at the shore gave me a feeling of nostalgia. I missed my town. It’s where I spent my childhood. I got a lot of good memories there.
“Bang bang” I heard a little kid say. I look to it’s direction and I saw a kid in his fifth year in this world pointing his toy gun at me. I smiled at him and I pretended I got hit. The kid smiled. He said bang bang some more. I died some more. I remember when I was a kid. I used to have a wooden gun shaped like the kids gun. It was made by a man named Ben. He used to do some work in our house and me, still a little kid like this kid used to watch him work cause I don’t have nothing to do. Then, he was curving this wood into a gun and then to my surprise, he gave it to me when I it was done. It meant a lot to me cause my father wouldn’t buy a toy gun or toys for that matter. I played with that gun pretending I was a policeman. I have a lot of fun playing with that gun. Then one day, the gun got lost and I look for it everywhere and I couldn’t find it. I’ll be looking for that gun for the rest of my life.

my way, see if it works on you

First thing you do when you write a script is having an idea. But if I'm not writing, I walk in the park or go to the mall and just collect a scene on my mind. It could be some funny situations, with funny dialogue like Pulp Fiction. Sometimes when I write, I think in advance of all the cool things to put in the story in advance. And sometimes, it makes the writing process easy for they are the clues that you could follow to the middle, climax and the end of the story. And example of ideas could be, a woman, who's funny, outgoing. Classy and she is not the most popular in her circle of friends, or in the office. She is left out in the action sometimes. And there, she has a boss who is so handsome, young and sophisticated, one who she would not expect to like her.

INT. OFFICE CUBICLE - NIGHT

The NIGHT LIGHT is on on her CUBICLE. She is thinking. Her gaze fall into OREO COOKIE pack. TANYA picks it up and starts eating.

TANYA (V.O.)
Oreo's. Lord, give me
an idea for this
commercial. My fate
hangs on this project.

Another bite on Oreo's.

INT. HALLWAY - NIGHT

Office door opens. BRAD steps out of his OFFICE and walks the HALLWAY past the CUBICLES. He pass TANYA'S CUBICLE. TANYA eats OREO'S, not noticing BRAD. He clears his throat. TANYA is startled and face him.

BRAD
Working late
are we?

TANYA
Jesus, you scared me.

TANYA smiles. BRAD sees the OREO'S stain on her teeth. BRAD smile, not in a mocking way.

BRAD
You got Oreo's
on your teeth.

TANYA freaks out and hides her face in her hands.

BRAD
Don't freak out.
You did not mean
it. Come on, I'm
going to grab dinner,
I might be able to
help you on that.

TANYA
Oh my God. I'm
so embarrassed.

BRAD
There's nothing to be
ashamed of. You okay
for a company with dinner?

Still recovering from embarrassment, TANYA starts collecting her things.

INT. RESTAURANT - NIGHT

THE RESTAURANT is classy, lots of CLASSY PEOPLE eating.

BRAD and TANYA is picking on their food.

BRAD
So, how's your
assignment?

TANYA
I have not a clue
what to show for
the presentation.

BRAD
Well, you can find
idea by your
experiences in life.
You know.

TANYA
Please, give me an example.

BRAD
Well, for example, what
happened at the office.

TANYA
Oh God. I'm so embarrassed.

BRAD
No, don't freak out.
Listen to this, office
mates saw a pack of Oreo's
on the desk. They got tempted
and ate it. Came the owner,
he notice his Oreo's is gone.

TANYA
(Reddening.)
And I get mad.

BRAD
Then, your office
mates can't hold it
anymore and they
erupt in a fit of
laughter. Bang, Oreo's
on their teeth.

TANYA
Oh my God.

BRAD
And then, Oreo's, so
delicious you better
hide it where it can't
be found. The end.

TANYA's face is red as she takes it in. BRAD gives her a smile, a kind looking one.

See that scene, that would be the kind I collect while just walking in the park or the mall. Then, I think of some more funny stuff. Then you see a movie and there's a nice scene there that makes a good impression on you-- so funny that you'd want something a cool scene like that; or a dialogue like that.

You find your own cool scenes; or dialogue. Sometimes, a story ideas are derive from that. And as you write your first page, you'll think of those scenes and sometimes, like the defining moments of a great movie, you'll have your own. When you don't know how to proceed, or you got into a standstill, you scroll into your ideas of a scene or dialogue that you've stock piled in your head, then it could be the factor of the direction of the movie. Then, your script, if made a movie, would have something that those signed and famous scriptwriters does, a scenes that made them who they are, "Professional Writers."

Then, you're on your way to greatness because your scripts are very eventful and substantial with cool story line that makes viewers or readers think: Because he's a writer, he can make a cool movie. He is a god.

So, if you are not writing, think of cool ideas of scenes, whether it's funny, cool, twisted, or something orgasmic. Then, you'd be inspired to write, because you can't wait to use those ideas in your script. It can even be the factor of the progress of your script.

Or, you have an idea for a story, while still on your first page, you'll collect scenes in advance of the things you want the viewers or readers to expect that is so explosive.

Even simple makes it explosive. Especially a happening that is so simple people tend to ignore and they see it in your story and it becomes the defining moment of your script. Like Pulp Fiction, the part where John Travolta and Uma Thorman talked in the restaurant and John wants Uma to tell her the joke she said in her Pilot. Uma won't say it. John said:"I promise I won't laugh." Then Uma said:" That's what I'm afraid of." Take that example or watch Pulp Fiction if you havent seen it. It's my inspiration that made me write that kind of scripts.
